Predecessor / Successor

As a result of the technical development or modification of devices or materials existing components are constantly replaced by new ones. The definition of predecessors and successors through the users is only possible for premium data records. These predecessor / successor relations are represented in the MDM as follows:

Predecessor_Device

For the device of a component manufacturer a successor is supposed to be defined. This is done by marking the respective component and selecting the function “Predecessor / successor”. In the window that follows the window “Select component ...“ is opened by a click on the button “Add successor…”  and the successor is selected.

If a successor for a component with MFL approvals is defined, applications for approval will automatically be made for the successor - only for MFLs with the status "approved".

If the control boxes mentioned below have been ticked, this means:

•Mechanical interface
Installation position, external dimensions,…  are the same as the predecessor’s

•Electrical interface
The electrical connections, the signals, the connector face, … are the same as the predecessor’s

•Software interface
The software that has been used up to now, parameter list, … are the same as the predecessor’s

•User interface
The device is operated in the same way as the predecessor.
